Inside (or Behind) Every Hermes Bag Lies a Story...

...and I can certainly attest to that, I wrote an entire book about it.  Recently I re-read Barbara Guggenheim's wonderful story about how she acquired her first Hermès bag and it got me to thinking that there must be a lot of other interesting stories out there not unlike Ms Guggenheim's. So, I'd like to invite my readers to share with me, share with all of us, any interesting stories you might have about your Hermès experiences. There are no rules, no guidelines and no one who will judge. You have the option of either posting your story in the Comment section of this post or you are welcome to email it to me and I'll post it as a new Blog Post. email to: bringinghomethebirkin@yahoo.com

I once drank roadside Rioja and ate a ham sandwich going 140km per hr in the back of a Mercedes using a Birkin (in the box still) as a picnic table.

I don't know if this is what you are looking for or not so feel free to delete it. All through the 70's and 80's my parents would go to Gstaad for a month in the winter so my Dad could ski. My Dad was an avid skier and was on various ski teams and clubs all through college and after. My Mom didn't care too much about skiing, although she did ski once in a while, but mostly she just liked the trip to Europe, the fine dining and the shopping. At some point my mother bought a Birkin bag at the Hermes store in Gstaad (as I remember it my Dad was not terribly pleased) - it's a camel colored leather version with golden hardware. Once they were back home she used the bag a few times but for some reason or other didn't feel comfortable carrying it. My mother was very active with the local Garden Club and at some point she started using the bag almost like a tool kit to schlep around her gardening tools. Fast forward and I eventually inherited the bag and it was beyond filthy inside although much of that filth was just garden soil, dirt and dust. The outside of the bag was in pretty good overall condition. I thoroughly vacuumed the bag out and lined the bottom of the inside of the bag -which is stained- with an old Hermes scarf of my mother's and now I use this bag as my everyday bag. I love it because it's a constant reminder of my mother and the gardening she so much loved.
