Pictured above, the Hermès (franchise) store at Waterside Shops (Naples, FL) will close on March 28th. It seems as if Hermès is systematically doing away with their franchise stores. This is at least the third franchise store that I'm aware of to close in the past few years. I sure wouldn't want to be the owner of the Manhasset, New York store. Tick tock....

From what I've seen over the past few years Hermes has re-opened there own store in the same area where they closed down a franchise stores. Hermes gets some franchisee to foot the bill to the tune of a few million bucks to test the waters and then if successful they end the contract with the franchisee and open a corporate store. I would also be curious as to who does the build-out and who pays for that (at the franchise).
Who selects the space, the builder, the fixtures, etc? After the contract is closed out what happens to the merchandise? Fixtures? Something smells like rotten fish here!
I heard from an employee at Waterside Shops that the store is being remodeled and then will be open for one year. A new store will then open on 5th avenue downtown Naples. I don't know how plausible this is. I really hope Naples doesn't lose its Hermes store. That is a step in the wrong direction for Naples shopping.
